It is almost fabulous to anyone that two months after the conduct of the 2017 UTME, more than 85000 candidates are still awaiting their results.
The different hitches and various sharp practices by CBT centres, employed by JAMB, for the conduct of the UTME marred the examination that was conducted between 13th to 20th May. These necessitated the re-scheduling of no less than 75000 candidates to re-write the examination on the first of July.
Worrisome for the candidates at present is the media silence JAMB has maintained since JAMB message proclaiming the successful conduct of the mop up exam on July 1. For all the candidates who participated in this mop up exam, they have no way of knowing when their results will be released or knowing whether they are not back on the track that led them into re-writing the examination in the first place.
It is to be noted that JAMB remained silent as to the reason why the results were being withheld for more than a month before announcing the re-scheduling of examination for barely two weeks from the time of the announcement. Candidates who have spent months preparing for the first UTME are forced to repeat such feat in less than two weeks if they are to secure a place in the tertiary institutions this year.
Those hailing JAMB for its successful conduct of the UTME should note that the exam cannot be seen as successful until all innocent candidates’ results are released. In one of such congratulatory messages, the writer commended the JAMB registrar for rescheduling the exam of the affected candidates. Everyone must note that re-scheduling is not in anyway a favour in the least to these candidates as the candidates did not choose the erring CBT centres themselves. JAMB placed everyone in the centres that it wished.
It should be recalled that the international standard practice for CBT examination is for the results of such exam to be released within 24 hours of the end of the examination
The question every stakeholder has been asking with regards to the MOP UP examination conducted on July 1st across the nation is:
WHY IS THE RESULT YET TO BE RELEASED, ALMOST TWO WEEKS AFTER THE EXAM?
WHY IS JAMB NOT GIVING REASONS FOR THE DELAY?
