The yarn about Nigeria being the giant of Africa should be recorded as a song if we do not have it yet and played on radio beyond the number of times Mr Eazi’s songs have been played on mainstream radio.
The internet got crazy yesterday after Mr Eazi dumped Nigeria for Ghana in a tweet about how Ghanaian sounds have been a major influence on the recent Nigerian sounds. I do not have a thing against such tweet but i feel a great joy for the Nigerian music producers/artists and the Nigerian music industry as a whole.
Let us take a stroll back to 2012, When Sarkodie released Azonto Fiesta which features Kesse & Appietus, the song got big and popular in Nigeria following acceptance from mainstream radio and the streets but Nigerian producer did not start to produce songs with the Ghanaian vibe until Wizkid released his version of Azonto and hence the Ghanaian sounds became “popular” as the new wave.
In 2013, The South African sounds dominated the Nigerian music atmosphere following the churning out of few sounds from South African artists especially “Khona” by Mafikizolo. The Nigerian producers bought into the South African sounds because it had a soothing relationship with the typical Nigerian sound. Nigerian producers henceforth gave the sounds in Nigeria and Africa as a whole another shape which reigned all through till 2014.
2015 was a great year for the Nigerian music industry as her sounds got definition from a different perspective following dominating hit from the likes of Olamide – Lagos Boys, Wizkid – Ojuelegba, Adekunle Gold – Orente, Kiss Daniel – Woju and others.
In 2016, Nigeria being the major stir in the African music industry following worldwide acceptance of the “Afrobeat” genre redefined the sounds after the introduction of the new Star Boy Entertainment serial hit maker “Mr Eazi“. The introduction of such Mr Eazi sound “The Ghanaian sound” to the Nigerian music atmosphere got major acceptance after Nigerian music producers absorbed the vibe into their productions because it was soothing with the sequence of the then available sounds.
The Nigerian music industry with the aid of the Nigerian Music Producers absorbed the Ghanaian sounds and made it bigger combining it with the Nigerian sounds of drums, bass and percussion.
Nigerian Producers/Artists should be given adequate credits for being the major dictator of the sounds that get into the waves….Do you not think so?
