Born January 20, 1979, Gbadewonuola Olateju Oyelakin better known as Teju Babyface is a Nigerian stand-up comedian, TV talk show host, actor, inspirational speaker, political satirist, Master of Ceremonies and television producer. He starred in the popular movie Diamond Ring and is a host of his syndicated TV talk show, The Teju Babyface Show since 2012 a show that showcases the best elements of the African society.
Teju Babyface was born on January 20th 1979 in Lagos, Nigeria. He attended Corona School Apapa, Proceeded to Federal Government College Ogbomoso and concluded at the University of Lagos where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance. According to Teju Babyface, he told his parents he wanted to study law, but they didn’t want a lawyer for a son. They wanted a doctor, an engineer or an accountant for a son. That influenced his decision to study Accounting but instead was admitted for insurance.
While at the University of Lagos, Teju was a member of Theatre 15, a vocational acting outfit which was made up of other students of the University. In his second year, he caught the attention of Tade Ogidan an Award winning director who was in search for the main character in the movie Diamond Ring. Teju auditioned for the role and was selected and the movie was premiered.
After several auditions for Solitaire Amaka Igwe’s TV series, he was given the role of ‘Des’. The television series featured stars including Keppy Ekpenyong, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Barbara Soky, Ireti Doyle and others. After the huge production, Solitare didn’t meet the expectations as the series hit television screens years behind schedule.
He acted in another Television series entitled ‘One Too Much’ with popular Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot which was received by viewers averagely. During these times, Teju babyface realized that acting was dependent on being cast in any role by directors and producers, but stand-up comedy was an area that offers equal fame and fortune especially the liberty to perform that he would never find in acting and so he accepted an offer to perform as the Emcee for a departmental end of year party whilst in the university of Lagos.
He cherished the experience so much that he spent less time trying to perform and focused more on stand-up comedy and was rewarded with achievements and recognition. Teju Babyface has performed in Opa Williams Night of a thousand laughs, he worked alongside popular comedians such as Ali Baba, Basketmouth, Bovi. Buchi, Teju and others.
