Born August 19, 1978, Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known by his stage name A.Y is a multi-award winning Nigerian actor, comedian, radio and television presenter, writer, director and MC. He is the host of AY Live Comedy Concert. He married Mabel Makun in 2008 and they have a daughter together (Michelle Makun).
Early Life and Education
Ace Comedian, AY was born into the family of seven of which he is the oldest male child. He hails from Ifon, Ondo State, but was born and raised in Warri, delta state. He holds a Bachelor degree (B.A) in theatre arts from Delta State University Abraka, Delta State.
AY’s Journey into becoming professional comedy began during his university days in delta state university. He was the most celebrated theatre arts student at the university winning various awards which include: The best show-biz promoter, Jaycee club socio-personality award, the most fashionable student on campus and the most celebrated student on campus. The talented comedian holds an enviable record of being the first student in the history of the Theatre arts department of delta state university to direct a convocation production. He worked as the personal assistant and event manager to Veteran comedian Alibaba Akporobome in 2006 and gained popularity through impersonating Rev. Chris Okotie in his witty jokes and he won the best upcoming comedian in Nigeria the same year he started. Ayo Makun hosts one of the largest comedy concert in Africa, AY Live featuring popular comedians like Bovi, Helen Paul, Gordons, Funny bone, Princess and others. He also directs and stars in a Television sitcom AY’s crib alongside Alex Ekubo, Buchi Franklin, Justice Nuagbe and Venita Akpofure. He featured in a movie “Being Mrs. Elliot” as a funny character called Ishawuru in 2014 with Omoni Oboli, Majid Michael and Sylvia Oluchi. He also featured in a movie he produced 30 days in Atlanta as Akpos with Ramsey Noauh, Richard Mofe Damijo, Lynn Whitfield and Karlie Redd in 2014. The CEO of Corporate World Entertainment Nigeria contributed immensely to various publications as a guest writer for entertainment columns like Jokes Apart in Gbenga Adeyinka’s monthly comedy journal, Laffmatazz and Going AY-Wire every Friday on The Sun Newspapers. He also presents The AY Live on The Morning Drive every Friday from 6 am to 10 am on Rhythm 93.7 FM, Lagos. He also owns various Club houses in Nigeria. As a stand-up comedy investor, he has encouraged upcoming comedians through his AY “Open Mic Challenge”.
Awards and Achievments
AY has won different awards including: Diamond Awards for Comedy, Teens favourite, MBG Abuja Merit Awards, National Daily Awards, Arsenal Award for Excellence and Mode Men of the year Awards (2008), United Nations Peace Ambassador for comedy of the year (2009), Nigerian Entertainment Awards for comedy of the year, Most creative Entrepreneur of the year (2013). His movie 30 days in Atlanta has also won several awards in Nigeria
Makun signed a multi-million Naira endorsement deal with one of Africa’s leading communication company Globacom, Haven homes and peak milk.
The AY live annual show fetches him around 160million Naira, he collects between N1 million and N2 million per show depending on the organizers and audience. His annual income is about 280 million and Networth is estimated to be about N800million
