Abovi Ugboma (born September 25, 1979) Professionally known by his stage name Bovi is a top rated Nigerian stand-up comedian, actor, master of ceremony, poet, writer, director and producer. He starred in the popular sitcom Extended Family and has hosted his own stand-up comedy concert “Bovi man on Fire”.
Early Life and Education
Ace Comedian Bovi was born in the late 1970s into the family of Chief Eddie Ugboma. He is a native of Isoko in Delta State, Nigeria, but was born and raised in Benin-city, Edo State.
He had his primary education in University of Benin staff school Benin-city, then proceeded for his secondary education in Government College Ughelli in Delta state, continued at Edokpolor grammar school Benin-city and concluded at Boys model secondary school Onicha-Olona in Delta state.
He moved on to further his education at Delta State University Abraka to study theatre arts. Bovi obtained a bachelor’s degree (B.A) from the university in 2002.
In 2003, he served with African Largest television network Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Lokoja, Kogi State as a news reporter. Bovi got into the Nigerian entertainment industry in 2004 immediately after service when he moved to Lagos State.
He got a job as the personal assistant to Nollywood’s popular actor Richard Mofe Damijo for two years and six months. According to the comedian, Richard Damijo coached and mentored him during the period he worked with him. He later set up his personal production crew in 2006.
In 2007, Bovi Ugboma gained popularity when he starred in the popular comedy TV series titled extended family which was written and produced by him. In 2008, Bovi became a household name in the stand-up comedy business and has since improved to become one of Nigerian’s top-notch comedians.
The ace comedian featured in Opa William’s Night of a thousand laughs with top rated Nigerian comedians Basketmouth, Buchi, I go dye, I go save, Julius Agwu, Okey Bakassi and others. He also featured in Glo Laffta Fest, Basketmouth’s comedy concert tagged Basketmouth Uncensored and Lords of the Ribs.
Bovi man on Fire stand-up comedy concert which began in 2013 has become a one Nigerians look forward to annually. Bovi is the Chief Executive Officer of a production house called Kountry Kulture Network for events, film and television production.
Bovi Ugboma is happily married to Kris Asimonye Ugboma and the couple have been blessed with two lovely children (David Ugboma and Elena Ugboma). The wonderful couple got married September 19, 2009.
Awards and Achievements
Bovi received an award for Comedian of the year at Ghana Awards and Culture people Award. He also received an award for Best Youth Comedian at the stand-up comedian award and others.
The Edo State born comedian, signed a multi-million Naira endorsement deal with Nigeria’s telecommunications giant Globacom telecommunications Company, Vitafoam and Diamond Bank (Advert)
