The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) Executive Secretary, Dr. Masa’udu A. Kazaure has warned members of the public to beware of individuals and institutions which are in the habit of admitting students to study courses in unapproved and illegal Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Innovation Enterprise Institutions (IEIs) with a promise to award the National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates.
The Executive Secretary warned that those institutions have not been licensed by the Federal Government and are therefore operating illegally in violation of the Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act CAP E3, LFN, 2004. In a public notice titled “Beware of Unapproved Polytechnics, Monotechnics and IEIs”, published in some national dailies, the Executive Secretary said anyone who obtains certificates from any of those institutions would not be recognized for the purpose of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), employment and for further studies.
He added that the relevant security agencies have accordingly been informed of the existence of such illegal institutions to take further necessary action.
The public notice which also contained more than sixty of some of the illegal institutions further directed members of the public to always obtain clarification on approved polytechnics and similar tertiary technical institutions as well as programmes offered from the Board’s office in Kaduna or its liaison office in Abuja or check its website at www.nbte.gov.ng
