Rivers State Governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Rivers South East senatorial district, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, have applauded the December 10, 2016 ultimatum handed down to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the conduct of legislative rerun election in Rivers State.
However, Abe, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, yesterday, attributed the delay in conduct of the rerun elections in the state by INEC to continuous declaration of threats on it’s officials by Wike.
He stated that the governor has been faulting INEC that if the commission could successfully conduct elections in Sambisa, the hotbed of insurgency in Borno State, it cannot cite insecurity for its inability to conclude the rerun elections in Rivers State.
On his part, Wike, who spoke yesterday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, when he granted audience to a delegation of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), commended the Nigerian Senate for rising to the occasion in defence of democracy as it concerns the rerun elections in the state.
He declared that it is important that Rivers State gets her full representation at the Senate, the House of Representatives and the Rivers State House of Assembly, saying, “I thank God that the Senate has risen to the occasion .
“It is important that the Senate has taken the right action that will ensure that Rivers State gets her representatives to speak for the state when issues of National importance are discussed in the Senate and the House of Representatives.”
