Alan Shearer has slammed Arsenal for their display against Manchester United and singled Mesut Ozil out for criticism insisting he simply “wasn’t up for it”.
The Gunners looked to be heading for defeat at Old Trafford after Juan Mata had given the hosts the lead but an 89th minute header from substitute Olivier Giroud saw them grab a barely-deserved point.
Indeed Arsenal scored from their only shot on target throughout the 90 minutes and Shearer says it was a very poor display from Arsene Wenger’s side.
“Very sloppy in fact and a lot of their passes went astray,” he told BBC’s ‘Match of the Day’. “[They were] slow to the ball, slow to react and it wasn’t just three or four, it was every single player who started for Arsenal today, I thought had a poor game.
“I didn’t think they played well at all, they were very poor for the vast majority of the game. They looked very leggy, very tired, very sloppy”.
Shearer was particularly critical of Ozil, describing him as being tired despite the fact he was rested by Germany over the international break and not included in their squad for games against San Marino and Italy.
He added: “Even this guy, Ozil, who has been brilliant for all the season looked really tired, wasn’t up for it today and it was mistake after mistake.”
