Eagles coach Gernot Rohr will use a test game against Nigeria premier league club Akwa United to ascertain the fitness of his players and also gauge the technical demands of the match venue.
A team official disclosed: “The Wednesday friendly against Akwa United is at the instance of the Eagles coach.
“He said he wishes to fully ascertain the match fitness of his call-ups as well as have a practical measurement of the size of the pitch of the Akwa Ibom International Stadium.”
Rohr has called up 23 players made up mostly of foreign based professionals like Chelsea stars Mikel Obi and Victor Moses as well as Ahmed Musa and Ogenyi Onazi.
Saturday’s match against Tanzania will be Rohr’s first match in charge of Nigeria.
He plans to use the match to prepare for the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Zambia on October 3 and so his insistence on parading the country’s top pros for this AFCON dead rubber after both countries failed to qualify for Gabon 2017.
