Despite the security reinforcement around Gwaram local government area in Jigawa State, 15 persons were reported to have been abducted by gunmen from two villages in the area.
A source from the area revealed that, the gunmen invaded Unguwar Kyafi of Zunburan village of Busirika district of the local government and kidnapped persons.
A district head, who spoke on condition Of anonymity, said the gunmen had shot sporadically before abducting the victims, but nobody was injured or killed in the process.
“When they started shooting in the air every body took to his hill for safety, but they succeeded in kidnapping this large number of people
“This is not the first time we are experiencing such case in this area, about one month ago, three people from Matsangu village were kidnapped but they were all released after discussion between the family of victims and the kidnappers.
“The incident happened on Friday but as I am talking to you there is no information on where about of the victims , the kidnappers are yet to be identified and also yet to forward any demand to the relatives of their captives,” he said.
When contacted, the state police public relations officer, SP Abdu Jinjiri said “I spoke with the commissioner of police and he said he is not aware of any kidnapping case,” he said.
Gwaram local government area with boarder with Bauchi state and Gwani forest has been a serious security threat for years.
