According to Nielsen Music, Adele’s latest effort has already sold 2.43 million copies since it’s Friday release.
The record for most album sales in an opening week previously belonged to boy band N-Sync, whose 2000 album, No Strings Attached, sold 2.41 million copies in its opening week.
One of the factors which propelled Adele to the huge record was her decision to remove her album from streaming sites, which have slowed down album sales in recent years.
The last artiste to cross the million-mark in the first week was Taylor Swift, whose 2014 album 1989, opened with 1.3 million copies.
