The authorities of the University of Jos has threatened to expel students who indulge in examination malpractice and acts capable of tarnishing the image of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Hayward Mafuyai, gave the warning on Wednesday, during the matriculation of 1005 students of Bachelors of Education, B.Ed, held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Institution.
“If caught engaged in any form of examination misconduct, the penalty is outright expulsion. Also, as mature students that you are, we do not expect you to engage in cultic activities. We need to warn you that there is no room for cultism in this University, outright expulsion is also the penalty for any student found to belong to a cult, such a student will be handed over to the police for prosecution,” Mr. Mafuyai said.
He particularly warned the new students against involving in cult activities.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the newly matriculated students to be security conscious, considering the prevailing insecurity that has bedevilled the university, and urged them to protect themselves against the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.
Mr. Mafuyai also told the students that their admission will be withdrawn if their certificates were false or incomplete.
“You should note that if at any point in time any of you is found to have registered with false certificates or incomplete qualifications, you will be withdrawn from the programme,” he said.
The VC warned lecturers against production and sale of hand-out, to students and told the students that such materials had been banned.
On his part, the Registrar of the University, Jily Dandam while administering the matriculation oath, to the students, asked them to shun cultism and avoid any examination malpractices saying the institution strongly kicks against such act.
